New Brunswick resident Barry Deloatch was fatally shot on Sept. 22, 2011 by a police officer at the intersection of Throop Avenue and Handy Street in New Brunswick, NJ. The day following the shooting, Deloatch's friends and family, as well as other community members protested against the alleged police brutality. Protests continued for months to follow. A year after the shooting, Middlesex County prosecutors announced that there would be no criminal charges against the officers involved in the shootings. (The Daily Targum)
